Definition
Alginate refers to the salts or esters of alginic acid, typically obtained from brown algae (seaweed). It absorbs water and forms viscous solutions or gels, so it is widely used as a thickener, gelling agent, and stabilizer in foods, pharmaceuticals, dentistry (impression materials), and wound dressings.
एल्जिनेट ऐल्जिनिक अम्ल के लवण या एस्टर को कहते हैं, जो सामान्यतः भूरे शैवाल (समुद्री घास) से प्राप्त होता है। यह पानी सोखकर गाढ़ा घोल या जेल बना सकता है, इसलिए इसका उपयोग खाद्य पदार्थों, औषधियों, दंत-चिकित्सा (इम्प्रेशन सामग्री) और घाव की ड्रेसिंग में गाढ़ा करने, जेल बनाने तथा स्थिरकारक के रूप में व्यापक रूप से होता है।
