यह शब्द मध्य फ़्रेंच affectation से आया है, जो लैटिन affectatio (किसी चीज़ के लिए प्रयत्न/लालसा) से बना है; यह affectare ‘प्रयत्न करना/लक्ष्य बनाना; ओढ़ लेना’ से संबंधित है, और afficere से भी जुड़ा है।
Definition
Affectations are deliberate, unnatural ways of speaking, behaving, or presenting oneself to seem more refined, intelligent, fashionable, or important; they are usually seen as insincere or pretentious.
'Affectations' का अर्थ है जान-बूझकर अपनाए गए बनावटी बोल-चाल, व्यवहार या तौर-तरीके, जो खुद को अधिक सभ्य, बुद्धिमान, फैशनेबल या महत्वपूर्ण दिखाने के लिए किए जाते हैं; इन्हें प्रायः दिखावटी और असत्य/कृत्रिम माना जाता है।
