From Old English wuduwe, from Proto-Germanic *widuwō, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *widʰéwā (‘widow’).
পুরাতন ইংরেজি wuduwe থেকে; প্রোটো-জার্মানিক *widuwō হয়ে, শেষতক প্রোটো-ইন্দো-ইউরোপীয় *widʰéwā (অর্থ ‘বিধবা’) থেকে উদ্ভূত।
Definition
A widow is a woman whose spouse (husband) has died; the term is also used figuratively in printing for a short last line left alone at the top of a page/column.
বিধবা হলো এমন একজন নারী যার স্বামী মারা গেছেন; শব্দটি মুদ্রণ/টাইপসেটিংয়েও রূপক অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়—পাতা/কলামের ওপরে একা পড়ে থাকা অনুচ্ছেদের ছোট শেষ লাইনকে ‘widow line’ বলা হয়।
