weather + -ward (“দিকে/অভিমুখে”) থেকে গঠিত; পুরোনো নৌ-ইংরেজিতে “বাতাস/ওয়েদার দিকের দিকে” অর্থে ব্যবহৃত।

Moving or facing toward the wind (the side exposed to the oncoming wind), often used in nautical or meteorological contexts.
বাতাস যে দিক থেকে আসে সেই দিকের দিকে (অর্থাৎ বাতাসের মুখোমুখি/বাতাস-বাহিত দিক), বিশেষ করে নৌ-চালনা বা আবহাওয়াবিজ্ঞানের প্রসঙ্গে ব্যবহৃত।
