From Latin vagina meaning “sheath, scabbard,” later used in anatomical Latin for the female genital passage.
ল্যাটিন vagina শব্দ থেকে, যার অর্থ ছিল “খাপ/খোলস (তলোয়ারের খাপ),” পরে শারীরস্থানগত ল্যাটিনে নারী জননাঙ্গের নালিকে বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Definition
The vagina is the internal muscular passage connecting the vulva to the cervix of the uterus; it functions in menstruation, sexual intercourse, and childbirth. In some contexts it can also refer to analogous structures in other animals, or to a sheath-like covering in plants, though the anatomical sense is the most common.
যোনি হলো নারী স্তন্যপায়ীদের দেহে একটি অভ্যন্তরীণ পেশল নালি, যা ভল্ভা থেকে জরায়ুমুখ (সার্ভিক্স) পর্যন্ত সংযোগ স্থাপন করে; ঋতুস্রাব, যৌনসংগম এবং সন্তান প্রসবে এর ভূমিকা থাকে। কিছু প্রসঙ্গে এটি অন্যান্য প্রাণীতে অনুরূপ গঠন বা উদ্ভিদবিদ্যায় খোলস/আবরণজাত কাঠামোকেও বোঝাতে পারে, তবে শারীরস্থানগত অর্থটিই সবচেয়ে প্রচলিত।
