Origin & History
The term V-sign comes from the letter “V” (victory) and became widely known during World War II through Allied use, later also associated with “peace” in the 20th century.
V-sign শব্দটি ‘V’ অক্ষর (victory/বিজয়) থেকে এসেছে; দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময় মিত্রশক্তির ব্যবহারে এটি ব্যাপকভাবে পরিচিত হয় এবং পরে ২০শ শতকে ‘peace/শান্তি’-র সঙ্গেও যুক্ত হয়।
Definition
V-sign is a gesture in which the index and middle fingers are held up apart to make a V shape, used to mean “victory” (especially in wartime or politics) or “peace” (common in photos), and it can be insulting in some places if shown with the palm facing inward.
V-sign হলো এমন একটি হাতের ইশারা যেখানে তর্জনী ও মধ্যমা আঙুল আলাদা করে তুলে ‘V’ আকার করা হয়; এটি সাধারণত ‘বিজয়’ (বিশেষত যুদ্ধ/রাজনীতিতে) বা ‘শান্তি’ (ছবিতে প্রচলিত) বোঝায়, এবং কিছু দেশে তালু ভেতরের দিকে রেখে দেখালে এটি অপমানজনক অর্থও বহন করতে পারে।
