From New Latin syconium, from Greek sýkon (“fig”).
নিউ ল্যাটিন syconium থেকে; গ্রিক sýkon (অর্থ: “ডুমুর”) শব্দ থেকে উদ্ভূত।
Definition
A syconium is a specialized, hollow, fleshy structure (receptacle) that encloses many tiny flowers on its inner surface; after pollination these become seeds/fruits, as in figs, with a small opening (ostiole) to the outside.
সাইকোনিয়াম হলো বিশেষ ধরনের ফাঁপা ও মাংসল পুষ্পাধার (receptacle) যার ভেতরের দেয়ালে অনেক ক্ষুদ্র ফুল থাকে; পরাগায়নের পরে সেগুলি বীজ/ফল হিসেবে বিকশিত হয়—ডুমুরে যেমন দেখা যায়—এবং বাইরে যোগাযোগের জন্য এক পাশে ছোট ছিদ্র (অস্টিওল) থাকে।
