From Middle English sycomore, via Latin sycomorus from Greek sykomoros (“fig-mulberry”), originally referring to the sycamore fig (Ficus sycomorus); later applied to other similar large trees.
মধ্য ইংরেজি sycomore থেকে; ল্যাটিন sycomorus হয়ে গ্রিক sykomoros (“ডুমুর-তুঁত/ফিগ-মালবেরি”) থেকে এসেছে—মূলত সিক্যামোর ডুমুর (Ficus sycomorus) বোঝাত; পরে সাদৃশ্যের কারণে অন্যান্য বড় গাছের ক্ষেত্রেও নামটি ব্যবহৃত হতে থাকে।

Sycamore is a common name used for different large trees in different regions—most often the American plane tree (Platanus occidentalis), in Europe the sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), and historically the sycamore fig (Ficus sycomorus) mentioned in Biblical contexts.
