From Greek sophistikē (art/practice of a sophist), via Latin sophistica and French sophisterie; originally linked to the Sophists, teachers of rhetoric, later associated with deceptive reasoning.
গ্রিক sophistikē (সফিস্টের কৌশল/চর্চা) থেকে; ল্যাটিন sophistica ও ফরাসি sophisterie হয়ে ইংরেজিতে এসেছে। শুরুতে ‘সফিস্ট’ নামে বাগ্মিতা-শিক্ষকদের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত ছিল, পরে অর্থ দাঁড়ায় বিভ্রান্তিকর/প্রতারণামূলক যুক্তি।
Definition
Sophistry is reasoning or argumentation that appears logical and convincing but is actually flawed or intentionally deceptive, often used to mislead others in debate or writing.
Sophistry হলো এমন যুক্তি বা তর্ক, যা বাইরে থেকে যুক্তিসংগত ও বিশ্বাসযোগ্য মনে হলেও ভেতরে ভ্রান্ত বা ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে বিভ্রান্তিকর; সাধারণত বিতর্ক বা লেখায় অন্যকে ভুল পথে পরিচালিত করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
