Origin & History

From French sémiotique, from Greek sēmeiōtikē (tekhnē) meaning “the art of interpreting signs,” from sēmeion “sign.”

Definition

Semiotics is the academic field that analyzes how signs (words, images, gestures, sounds, symbols) create meaning and how people interpret them in language, culture, media, and communication; in medicine it can also mean the study of signs and symptoms.

সেমিওটিক্স হলো এমন এক বিদ্যাক্ষেত্র যা বিশ্লেষণ করে কীভাবে চিহ্ন (শব্দ, ছবি, অঙ্গভঙ্গি, ধ্বনি, প্রতীক) অর্থ তৈরি করে এবং মানুষ ভাষা, সংস্কৃতি, গণমাধ্যম ও যোগাযোগে সেগুলো কীভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করে; চিকিৎসাবিজ্ঞানে এটি লক্ষণ ও উপসর্গ অধ্যয়ন (সিম্পটোমাটোলজি) অর্থেও ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।
