Definition
A pons is a bridge-like band of tissue that connects two parts of an organ; in human anatomy it most commonly refers to the pons in the brainstem, a structure made of nerve fibres that helps relay signals between different parts of the brain and supports functions such as sleep, breathing, and facial sensation/movement.
