From Greek páthos ‘suffering, experience, emotion’, from páschein ‘to suffer’; adopted into English via Latin in the sense of an emotional quality or appeal in literature and rhetoric.
গ্রিক páthos (অর্থ ‘ভোগান্তি/অভিজ্ঞতা/আবেগ’) থেকে এসেছে, যা páschein (‘ভোগ করা/কষ্ট পাওয়া’) ধাতু থেকে উদ্ভূত; লাতিনের মাধ্যমে ইংরেজিতে এসে সাহিত্য ও অলঙ্কারশাস্ত্রে আবেগঘন গুণ বা আবেগে আবেদন বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Pathos is the emotional power of a story, speech, scene, or artwork that moves people—often by arousing pity, compassion, sorrow, or tenderness; in classical rhetoric it is one of the main persuasive appeals (alongside ethos and logos) that targets feelings to influence judgment.
