From Middle English mitten, likely from Old French mitaine (“mitten; half-glove”), ultimately of Germanic origin; plural “mittens” is the regular plural form.

Definition
Mittens are hand garments with one compartment for the four fingers and a separate one for the thumb, often worn for warmth in cold weather; in another sense they refer to an animal’s paw that is a different colour from its body; idiomatically “to give/get the mitten” means to reject someone romantically.
মিটেনস হলো হাত ঢাকার পোশাক, যেখানে চারটি আঙুল একসাথে একটি খাপে থাকে এবং বুড়ো আঙুলের জন্য আলাদা খাপ থাকে—সাধারণত ঠান্ডায় উষ্ণতা বজায় রাখতে পরা হয়; আরেক অর্থে বিড়াল/কুকুরের শরীরের রঙের থেকে ভিন্ন রঙের থাবাকেও বোঝায়; বাগধারায় “to give/get the mitten” মানে প্রেমের প্রস্তাব বা সম্পর্ক থেকে কাউকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করা।
