‘ভালোবাসে’ গঠিত ‘ভালো’ + ‘বাসা/বাস’ (থাকা/আসক্ত থাকা অর্থবোধক ধাতু) থেকে, যার ভাবার্থ ‘ভালোভাবে আসক্ত/অনুরক্ত থাকা’; আধুনিক বাংলায় এটি প্রেম/স্নেহ বোঝাতে প্রচলিত।
