‘সভ্য’ শব্দটি ‘সভা’ (সমাজ/সমাবেশ) থেকে গঠিত; অর্থাৎ যে সমাজে চলতে জানে—তাকে ‘সভ্য’ বলা হয়। ‘করানো/করা’ ক্রিয়ার সঙ্গে যুক্ত হয়ে ‘সভ্য করা’ অর্থ দাঁড়ায় সভ্য করে তোলা
