একই ধরনের বৈশিষ্ট্য বা উদ্দেশ্যের ভিত্তিতে মানুষ/বস্তু/ধারণাকে যে ভাগ বা দলে সাজানো হয় তাকে শ্রেণি বলা হয়; শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে একই স্তরের শিক্ষার্থীদের পাঠদানের একককেও শ্রেণি বলা হয়
