বাংলা ‘সংযোজিত’ শব্দটি ‘সংযোগ’/‘সংযোজন’ (যুক্ত করা, একত্র করা) ধারণা থেকে এসেছে; মূল ধাতু ‘যোগ/যোজ’ (যুক্ত করা) এবং উপসর্গ ‘সম্/সং-’ (একত্র) থেকে গঠিত, যার সঙ্গে বিশেষণসূচক প্রত্যয় ‘-িত’ যুক্ত হয়ে ‘যা যুক্ত করা হয়েছে’ অর্থ তৈরি করেছে।
