সংস্কৃত ‘ষট্’ (ছয়) + ‘পদ’ (চরণ/পংক্তি/পদ) + স্ত্রীলিঙ্গ প্রত্যয় ‘ঈ’; অর্থ ‘ছয় পদের/চরণের’

From Sanskrit: ‘षट्’ (six) + ‘पद’ (foot/line/verse) + feminine suffix ‘ई’, meaning ‘of six feet/lines’
