‘পিছিয়ে’ এসেছে বাংলা ক্রিয়া ‘পিছানো/পিছিয়ে দেওয়া’-এর অব্যয়/ক্রিয়াবাচক রূপ থেকে, এবং ‘পড়বে’ হলো ‘পড়া’ ক্রিয়ার ভবিষ্যৎকালের রূপ; মিলিয়ে অর্থ দাঁড়ায় ‘ভবিষ্যতে পিছনে পড়বে/অগ্রগতিতে কমে যাবে’
