বাংলা ‘পেশা’ (জীবিকা/বৃত্তি) শব্দের সঙ্গে ফারসি-উর্দু উৎসজাত বিশেষণ-প্রত্যয় ‘-দার’ (ধারক/অধিকারী) যুক্ত হয়ে ‘পেশাদার’ গঠিত
Formed by combining Bengali ‘পেশা’ (occupation/vocation) with the Persian–Urdu-derived suffix ‘-দার’ meaning ‘holder/possessor’, yielding ‘one who practices a profession’

যে ব্যক্তি বা সংস্থা কোনো কাজকে নিয়মিত পেশা হিসেবে গ্রহণ করে প্রশিক্ষণ/দক্ষতার ভিত্তিতে পারিশ্রমিকের বিনিময়ে কাজ করেন, অথবা কোনো কাজের ক্ষেত্রে অপেশাদারের তুলনায় মানসম্মত ও দায়িত্বশীল আচরণ করেন
