বাঙালির কথ্য ভাষায় প্রচলিত ‘পাড়া’ শব্দটি মূলত বসতি বা আবাস-অঞ্চলের ধারণা থেকে গড়ে উঠেছে; এটি ভারতীয় ভাষাপরিসরে (বিশেষত বাংলা-অসমীয়া-ওড়িয়া অঞ্চলে) ‘মহল্লা/এলাকা’ অর্থে বহুল ব্যবহৃত
