সংস্কৃত ‘লীনা/লীন’ (লীয়তে—মিশে যায়/আত্মসাৎ হয়) ধাতু থেকে; বাংলায় অর্থবিস্তারে ‘শীর্ণ/পাতলা’ অর্থেও প্রচলিত

From Sanskrit ‘līna/lin’ (from the root meaning ‘to dissolve/merge, be absorbed’); in Bengali the sense broadened and is also commonly used to mean ‘slim/lean’

যে ব্যক্তি/দেহ গঠনে মেদ কম, পাতলা ও শীর্ণ, তাকে ‘লীন’ বলা হয়; আবার অলংকার/সাহিত্যে ‘লীন’ বলতে কিছুর মধ্যে মিশে যাওয়া বা একীভূত হওয়াও বোঝাতে পারে
