সংস্কৃত ‘গণ্য’ (গণ + য), অর্থ ‘গণনা/বিবেচনায় আনা’, এর সঙ্গে ভাববাচক প্রত্যয় ‘-তা’ যোগে ‘গণ্যতা’—অর্থ ‘গণ্য হওয়ার গুণ/অবস্থা’
