Origin & History
প্রাকৃত-আপভ্রংশ ধারার পুরোনো শব্দ ‘বাসি’ থেকে আধুনিক বাংলায় ‘টাটকা নয়/রাখা’ অর্থে ব্যবহৃত; ‘বাস’ (থাকা/রয়ে যাওয়া) ধারণার সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত বলে ধরা হয়
Used in Bengali in the sense of ‘not fresh/kept (overnight)’ and traced through Middle Indo-Aryan (Prakrit/Apabhraṃśa) forms; often considered related to the notion of ‘remaining/staying’ (বাস)
Definition
রান্না করা খাবার বা পানীয় অনেকক্ষণ/রাতভর রেখে দিলে তা আর টাটকা থাকে না; স্বাদ-গন্ধ কমে যায় বা নষ্টও হতে পারে—এই অবস্থাকে ‘বাসি’ বলা হয়
Food or drink that has been kept for a long time/overnight and is no longer fresh; its taste and smell may diminish or spoil—this state is called ‘stale/leftover’
