wave (तरंग) + length (लंबाई) से बना शब्द; इसका वैज्ञानिक अर्थ 19वीं शताब्दी में तरंग गति और विद्युत-चुंबकत्व के अध्ययन के साथ विकसित हुआ।
Definition
Wavelength is the spatial period of a wave—the distance between two points in the same phase (such as crest to crest or trough to trough); in physics it is usually denoted by λ and relates to speed and frequency by λ = v/f. Figuratively, being “on the same wavelength” means sharing similar thoughts, feelings, or understanding.
तरंगदैर्घ्य (wavelength) किसी तरंग की स्थानिक आवृत्ति है—अर्थात एक ही अवस्था (फेज़) में स्थित दो बिंदुओं (जैसे शिखर-से-शिखर या गर्त-से-गर्त) के बीच की दूरी; भौतिकी में इसे प्रायः λ से दर्शाते हैं और इसका संबंध चाल व आवृत्ति से λ = v/f द्वारा होता है। रूपक रूप में “on the same wavelength” का अर्थ है एक जैसी सोच, भावना या समझ होना।
