From Latin vitium (“fault, defect, moral failing”), via Old French vice; originally meaning “fault/defect,” later specialized to “moral failing/bad habit.”
लैटिन vitium (“दोष, कमी, नैतिक त्रुटि”) से, पुरानी फ़्रेंच vice के माध्यम से; आरम्भ में अर्थ “दोष/कमी” था, बाद में “नैतिक दुर्गुण/बुरी आदत” के अर्थ में अधिक प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Vice is a bad habit or immoral tendency (e.g., addiction, greed, gluttony). In law-enforcement contexts, it can also mean crimes linked to prostitution, pornography, gambling, alcohol, or drugs; and in older usage it can mean a horse’s dangerous or harmful behavioral defect.
Vice का अर्थ दुर्गुण/बुरी आदत या अनैतिक प्रवृत्ति (जैसे लत, लालच, अतिभोज) होता है। पुलिस/कानूनी संदर्भ में यह वेश्यावृत्ति, अश्लीलता, जुआ, शराब या नशीले पदार्थों से जुड़े अपराधों के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है; और पुराने प्रयोग में यह घोड़े के स्वभाव/व्यवहार की ऐसी खराबी भी हो सकता है जो खतरनाक या हानिकारक हो।
