From Middle English via Old French; related to words meaning a funnel or tube, later used for underground passages.
मध्य अंग्रेज़ी में पुरानी फ़्रेंच से आया; ‘फनल/नली’ से जुड़े शब्दों से संबंध, और बाद में भूमिगत मार्ग (सुरंग) के अर्थ में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
A tunnel is a covered passage—usually underground or underwater—made for roads, railways, pedestrians, utilities, or movement through an obstacle. The word also extends to animal burrows and to computing, where ‘tunneling’ means sending data through an encapsulated/secure channel.
टनल (सुरंग) एक ढका हुआ मार्ग होता है—आमतौर पर जमीन के नीचे या पानी के नीचे—जो सड़क, रेल, पैदल मार्ग, उपयोगिताओं (पाइप/केबल) या किसी बाधा के आर-पार जाने के लिए बनाया जाता है। यह शब्द जानवरों की बिल/सुरंग के लिए भी आता है और कंप्यूटिंग में ‘टनेलिंग’ के अर्थ में भी, जहाँ डेटा को एक आवरण/सुरक्षित चैनल में डालकर भेजा जाता है।
