From Old French trenchier “to cut”, ultimately from Vulgar Latin *trincare “to cut”; the noun developed from the idea of a cut in the ground.
यह शब्द पुरानी फ़्रांसीसी ‘trenchier’ (अर्थ: काटना) से आया है, जिसकी जड़ वल्गर लैटिन *trincare (अर्थ: काटना) में मानी जाती है; संज्ञा का अर्थ ‘जमीन में कट/चीरा’ से विकसित होकर ‘खाई’ बना।
Definition
A trench is a long, narrow hole dug in the earth, used for drainage, construction, archaeology, or as a protective ditch in war; as a verb it means to dig such a ditch, and figuratively to intrude or encroach on someone’s rights or territory.
ट्रेंच जमीन में खोदी गई लंबी, संकरी खाई होती है, जिसका उपयोग पानी निकासी, निर्माण, पुरातत्व या युद्ध में सुरक्षा के लिए किया जाता है; क्रिया के रूप में इसका अर्थ ऐसी खाई खोदना है, और रूपक रूप में किसी के अधिकार/क्षेत्र में दखल देना या अतिक्रमण करना भी होता है।
