लैटिन translucēre (‘आर-पार चमकना/झलकना’) से, जिसमें trans- (‘के आर-पार/से होकर’) + lucēre (‘चमकना’) शामिल है; अंग्रेज़ी में -ency प्रत्यय लगाकर संज्ञा बनी।
Definition
Translucency is the property of a material that lets light pass through while scattering it, making what is behind appear blurred rather than sharply visible (e.g., frosted glass, thin jade, some plastics).
पारदर्शिता-आंशिकता/अर्धपारदर्शिता वह गुण है जिसमें कोई पदार्थ प्रकाश को अपने भीतर से गुजरने देता है लेकिन उसे बिखेर देता है, जिससे पीछे की वस्तुएँ साफ़ नहीं बल्कि धुंधली दिखाई देती हैं (जैसे फ्रॉस्टेड काँच, पतला जेड, कुछ प्लास्टिक)।
