Definition
Toast commonly means slices of bread browned by heating. It also means a short speech or salute (often saying “cheers”) made while drinking to honor someone; the honored person can be called “the toast” (very celebrated). In informal US usage, “you’re toast” means you are in serious trouble or likely to be harmed/defeated.
Toast का सामान्य अर्थ है ब्रेड का वह टुकड़ा जिसे गरम करके भूरा/करारा किया गया हो। इसका अर्थ पेय (अक्सर शराब) पीते समय किसी के सम्मान में दिया गया छोटा भाषण/शुभकामना (जैसे “cheers”) भी होता है; जिसे सम्मान दिया जा रहा हो उसे भी “the toast” (बहुत चर्चित/प्रसिद्ध) कहा जा सकता है। अमेरिकी अनौपचारिक प्रयोग में “you’re toast” का मतलब होता है कि आप बड़ी मुसीबत में हैं या आपकी हार/नुकसान तय है।
