From Middle English scion ‘shoot, twig’, from Old French cion/seon ‘sprout, shoot’, ultimately from a Vulgar Latin form related to Latin 'situs'/'sinus' (branching sense); the ‘descendant/heir’ sense developed by metaphor from a plant shoot.
यह शब्द मध्य अंग्रेज़ी scion ‘कोमल टहनी/अंकुर’ से आया है, जो पुरानी फ़्रेंच cion/seon ‘अंकुर/टहनी’ से निकला; आगे इसका संबंध अशास्त्रीय लैटिन रूपों से माना जाता है। ‘वंशज/उत्तराधिकारी’ वाला अर्थ पौधे की टहनी (नई वृद्धि) के रूपक से विकसित हुआ।
Definition
A scion is (1) a child or descendant of a family, especially one with high social position or a famous name; and (2) a young plant shoot/twig that is grafted onto another plant to grow.
Scion का अर्थ है (1) किसी परिवार का वंशज/संतान, विशेषकर प्रतिष्ठित या प्रसिद्ध कुल का; और (2) पौधे की वह कोमल टहनी/शाखा जिसे कलम (grafting) के लिए दूसरे पौधे पर जोड़ा जाता है।
