यह शब्द लैटिन redactus (redigere का past participle) से आया है, जिसका अर्थ “वापस लाना/कम करना/संकलित करना” था; फ्रेंच/मध्ययुगीन प्रयोगों के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी में आया। आधुनिक अर्थ मुख्यतः आधिकारिक पाठों के संपादन और संवेदनशील अंशों को हटाने/छिपाने (censoring) के संदर्भ में विकसित हुआ।
Definition
To redact means to edit text—especially official documents—by removing, blacking out, or masking parts that must not be disclosed (e.g., names, addresses, classified details). “Redacts” is the third-person singular present form (he/she/it redacts).
Redact का अर्थ है किसी पाठ/दस्तावेज़ को संपादित करके उसके संवेदनशील, गोपनीय या अप्रासंगिक हिस्सों को हटाना, काला कर देना (black out) या छिपा देना ताकि उन्हें सार्वजनिक/साझा न किया जाए। “Redacts” वर्तमान काल का third-person singular रूप है (वह redact करता/करती है)।
