From the verb “profit,” via Middle English from Old French “profit,” ultimately from Latin “profectus” (“advance, progress”), from “proficere” (“to make progress”).

“Profited” means someone benefited or gained something (money, advantage, or usefulness), often used with “from” to show the source of the gain.
