From Latin praescriptio (“a writing before; direction, order”), from praescribere (“to write before; prescribe”), via French prescription, first widely used in medical and legal senses in English.
यह शब्द लैटिन praescriptio (अर्थ: ‘पहले लिखा हुआ निर्देश/आदेश’) से आया है, जो praescribere (‘पहले लिखना; निर्देश देना/प्रिस्क्राइब करना’) से बना है; फ्रेंच prescription के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी में आया और चिकित्सा व कानून के अर्थों में व्यापक रूप से प्रयुक्त हुआ।
Definition
A prescription is most commonly a doctor’s written order that tells a pharmacist what medicine to dispense and how to use it (dose, timing, duration). The word can also mean an authoritative rule or directive, and in law it can refer to time limits affecting rights (extinctive/liberative prescription) or acquiring property by long possession (acquisitive prescription).
प्रिस्क्रिप्शन का सबसे सामान्य अर्थ डॉक्टर द्वारा लिखा हुआ पर्चा/आदेश है, जिसमें दवा का नाम, मात्रा, लेने का समय और अवधि बताई जाती है। यह शब्द किसी नियम/निर्देश (authoritative directive) के अर्थ में भी आता है, और कानून में यह ऐसे समय-सीमाओं के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है जिनसे अधिकार समाप्त हो सकते हैं (extinctive/liberative prescription) या लंबे समय तक कब्ज़े/स्वामित्व-भाव से रखने पर संपत्ति का अधिकार बन सकता है (acquisitive prescription).
