लैटिन prae- (अर्थ: ‘पहले/पूर्व’) + ponere (अर्थ: ‘रखना’) से; मध्य/नव-लैटिन रूपों (preponere आदि) के माध्यम से। व्याकरणिक वर्णन में तत्वों को ‘सामने/पहले’ रखने के अर्थ में प्रयोग।
Definition
