From Romanian poiană “meadow, forest clearing,” of Slavic origin (cf. Proto-Slavic *poljana “open field/clearing”).

Definition
Poiana refers to an open grassy area, typically a meadow or clearing within or near a forest, and it also appears as a place name (toponym) in parts of Eastern Europe, especially Romania.
