From English planet + the suffix -oid (“resembling”), formed on the model of scientific terms meaning “planet-like”; popular in astronomical usage from the 19th century.
अंग्रेज़ी ‘planet’ (ग्रह) + प्रत्यय ‘-oid’ (अर्थ: ‘जैसा/सदृश’) से बना, जिसका आशय ‘ग्रह-जैसा’ है; 19वीं शताब्दी से खगोल-विज्ञान के प्रयोग में प्रचलित।
Definition
Planetoids are small celestial bodies that orbit the Sun and resemble planets in some ways but are much smaller; the term is often used interchangeably with minor planets or asteroids, depending on context.
प्लैनेटॉइड (लघु-ग्रह/ग्रहिका) ऐसे छोटे खगोलीय पिंड होते हैं जो सूर्य की परिक्रमा करते हैं और कुछ गुणों में ग्रहों जैसे दिखते हैं, लेकिन आकार में बहुत छोटे होते हैं; प्रसंग के अनुसार यह शब्द अक्सर ‘माइनर प्लैनेट’ या ‘एस्टरॉयड’ के लिए भी प्रयोग होता है।
