From modern scientific Latin pituitarius, from Latin pituita (“phlegm; nasal mucus”), based on the old belief that mucus originated in the pituitary region; later applied to the gland (pituitary gland).
आधुनिक वैज्ञानिक लैटिन pituitarius से, जो लैटिन pituita (“कफ/नाक का श्लेष्म”) से बना है; पुरानी मान्यता थी कि श्लेष्म पिट्यूटरी क्षेत्र से उत्पन्न होता है, इसलिए बाद में यही शब्द ग्रंथि (pituitary gland) के लिए प्रयोग होने लगा।

Pituitary means 'of or relating to the pituitary gland', a small endocrine gland at the base of the brain that releases hormones controlling growth, metabolism, and reproduction.
