From Persian pashm meaning “fine wool,” referring to the fine undercoat of Himalayan goats; the term entered English via South Asian trade and textile use.
फ़ारसी शब्द pashm (अर्थ: “बारीक ऊन/रोएँ”) से; यह हिमालयी बकरियों के सूक्ष्म अंदरूनी रोएँ के संदर्भ में है और दक्षिण एशियाई व्यापार तथा वस्त्र-प्रयोग के माध्यम से यह शब्द अंग्रेज़ी में आया।
Definition
Pashmina is a luxurious, very soft type of wool (or a shawl/scarf made from it), traditionally woven in Kashmir from the fine under-fleece of Himalayan goats; in modern usage it may also refer to similar soft shawls even when not purely pashmina.
पश्मीना एक बहुत मुलायम और बारीक ऊन (या उससे बना शॉल/दुपट्टा) है, जो परंपरागत रूप से कश्मीर में हिमालयी बकरियों के सूक्ष्म अंदरूनी रोएँ से बुना जाता है; आधुनिक प्रयोग में यह कभी-कभी उन मिलते-जुलते मुलायम शॉलों के लिए भी बोला जाता है जो शुद्ध पश्मीना न हों।
