From para- (“beside, secondary”) + type; used in zoological/botanical nomenclature for specimens associated with a species’ original description but not the holotype.
para- (अर्थ: ‘पास/द्वितीयक’) + type (टाइप) से बना शब्द; प्राणी/वनस्पति नामकरण में उन नमूनों के लिए प्रयुक्त जो मूल वर्णन से जुड़े हों लेकिन होलोटाइप न हों।
Definition
A paratype is a specimen cited in the original description of a species and examined by the author, forming part of the type series but not designated as the holotype; it helps document variation within the species. In typography/printing, paratype can also mean a sample or specimen of type used to show a font’s design.
पैराटाइप (paratype) वर्गिकी (taxonomy) में वह नमूना/प्र specimen होता है जिसे किसी प्रजाति के मूल वर्णन में लेखक ने देखा और उद्धृत किया हो; यह टाइप-सीरीज़ (type series) का भाग होता है लेकिन होलोटाइप (holotype) नहीं होता—यह प्रजाति के भीतर विविधता दर्ज करने में मदद करता है। मुद्रण/टाइपोग्राफी में यह किसी फ़ॉन्ट/टाइपफ़ेस का नमूना भी दर्शा सकता है।
