यह शब्द ग्रीक ‘Panikos’ (अर्थ: ‘पैन देवता से संबंधित’) से आया है; प्राचीन मान्यता के अनुसार पैन देवता के कारण अचानक डर उत्पन्न होता था। यह लैटिन और फ़्रेंच के माध्यम से 17वीं शताब्दी में अंग्रेज़ी में आया।
Definition
Panic is a sudden, intense feeling of fear or anxiety that can make a person lose control and act without thinking; it can also refer to mass fear spreading through a group or the public.
पैनिक (आतंक/घबराहट) भय या चिंता की अचानक, तीव्र अवस्था है जिसमें व्यक्ति अक्सर नियंत्रण खो देता है और बिना सोचे-समझे प्रतिक्रिया करता है; यह किसी समूह या जनता में फैलने वाले सामूहिक डर को भी दर्शा सकता है।
