over- (अधिक/ऊपर) + write (लिखना) से बना; अंग्रेज़ी में आरंभिक आधुनिक काल से प्रचलित, बाद में कंप्यूटिंग में संग्रहीत डेटा को बदलने के अर्थ में व्यापक हुआ।
Definition
To replace existing writing or stored information by writing new content on top of it, so the old content is lost; in writing/editing, to revise or elaborate more than necessary.
मौजूदा लिखाई या संग्रहीत जानकारी को उसके ऊपर नया लिखकर बदल देना, जिससे पुराना सामग्री मिट/खो जाती है; लेखन/संपादन में आवश्यकता से अधिक संशोधन या विस्तार करना।
