From Latin orientalis (“of the east”), from oriens (“rising”, i.e., the rising sun/east), via French.
लैटिन orientalis (अर्थ: ‘पूर्व का’) से, जो oriens (‘उदय होना’, अर्थात उगता सूर्य/पूर्व) से बना; फ्रेंच के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी में आया।
Definition
Relating to, coming from, or characteristic of the East—historically the lands east of the Mediterranean and now often East Asia; also (older senses) describing pearls/gemstones with rich lustre, a fragrant lily group, or a person from an eastern region. Note: as a label for people, it is often considered outdated or offensive in modern English.
