From English oar + fish, referring to the fish’s long, oar-like pelvic fin rays (and its elongated shape).
अंग्रेज़ी के oar (चप्पू) + fish (मछली) से; नाम इसकी चप्पू जैसी लंबी श्रोणि (pelvic) पंख-किरणों और लंबी देह-आकृति के संदर्भ में पड़ा।
Definition
An oarfish is an extremely long, silvery, ribbon-shaped fish that lives in the deep ocean; it is rarely observed alive and is often reported when it washes ashore, sometimes inspiring “sea serpent” stories.
ओअरफिश एक अत्यंत लंबी, चांदी जैसी, फीते/पट्टी के आकार की मछली है जो गहरे समुद्र में रहती है; इसे जीवित बहुत कम देखा जाता है और अक्सर तब चर्चा में आती है जब यह किनारे पर बहकर आ जाती है, जिससे कभी-कभी “समुद्री सर्प” जैसी कथाएँ जुड़ जाती हैं।
