From Latin nympha, from Ancient Greek nýmphē meaning ‘bride, young woman; a minor goddess of nature’.
लैटिन ‘nympha’ से, जो प्राचीन यूनानी ‘nýmphē’ से आया है; इसका अर्थ ‘दुल्हन/युवा स्त्री’ तथा ‘प्रकृति की छोटी देवी (निम्फ)’ माना जाता है।
Definition
In Greek and Roman mythology, a nymph is a minor female nature deity linked to places like rivers, forests, caves, and winds; in later/literary use it can mean a beautiful, graceful young girl, and in biology it refers to the immature form of certain insects (and also names some butterflies).
ग्रीक और रोमन मिथक-कथाओं में ‘nymph’ प्रकृति से जुड़ी एक छोटी स्त्री देवी/आत्मा होती है, जो नदियों, जंगलों, गुफाओं, झरनों या हवाओं जैसे स्थानों/तत्वों से संबंधित मानी जाती है; बाद के साहित्यिक प्रयोग में यह सुंदर/लावण्यपूर्ण युवती के लिए भी आता है, और जीवविज्ञान में यह कुछ कीटों की अपरिपक्व अवस्था (निम्फ) तथा कुछ तितलियों के समूह के नाम के रूप में भी प्रयुक्त होता है।
