यह शब्द फ़्रेंच niche (“दीवार की आला/खांचा, घोंसला”) से आया है, जिसकी जड़ संभवतः “घोंसला” अर्थ वाले शब्द से जुड़ी है; बाद में इसका रूपक अर्थ किसी उपयुक्त स्थान या विशिष्ट क्षेत्र के लिए विकसित हुआ।
Definition
In English, a niche is (1) a specialized area of interest, work, or market that suits a particular group or purpose, and (2) a small recess in a wall for placing a statue or object.
अंग्रेज़ी में niche का अर्थ है (1) किसी खास रुचि, काम या बाज़ार का विशिष्ट/सीमित क्षेत्र जो किसी समूह या उद्देश्य के लिए उपयुक्त हो, और (2) दीवार में बनी छोटी आला/खांचा जहाँ मूर्ति या वस्तु रखी जाती है।
