From Hindi नमस्ते (namaste), from Sanskrit नमस् (namas, “bow, obeisance”) + ते (te, “to you”), literally “bow to you.”
हिंदी ‘नमस्ते’ (नमस्ते) से; संस्कृत ‘नमस्’ (नमस्कार/प्रणाम) + ‘ते’ (तुम्हें/आपको) से बना, शाब्दिक अर्थ “आपको प्रणाम।”
Definition
“Namaste” is a polite, respectful greeting used when meeting or parting; it is commonly accompanied by the gesture of joining the palms at the chest (añjali mudrā) and a slight bow, conveying respect and humility.
