From Greek myōps (short-sighted), from myein “to close (the eyes), to blink” + ōps “eye, face”; entered English in the 18th century, first in medical use and later figuratively.
यह शब्द यूनानी myōps (निकट-दृष्टि) से आया है, जो myein “आँखें मींचना/झपकाना” + ōps “आँख/चेहरा” से बना है; 18वीं शताब्दी में अंग्रेज़ी में आया—पहले चिकित्सीय अर्थ में, बाद में रूपक अर्थ में भी प्रयोग होने लगा।

Myopic describes (1) a vision condition where a person can see near objects clearly but distant objects poorly, and (2) a figurative tendency to think only about the short term or a narrow range of ideas, ignoring wider consequences.
