From French moffette, from Italian mofetta “noxious exhalation,” ultimately from Latin mephitis “noxious odor, poisonous exhalation.”

Definition
Moffettes are natural vents or low-lying places (often in volcanic or geothermal areas) where carbon dioxide seeps out of the earth and can collect near the ground, sometimes causing suffocation of animals or people.
मोफेट्स (moffettes) प्राकृतिक गैस-निकास/निम्न-स्थल (अक्सर ज्वालामुखीय या भू-तापीय क्षेत्रों में) होते हैं जहाँ पृथ्वी से कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड रिसकर निकलती है और जमीन के पास जमा हो सकती है, जिससे कभी-कभी जानवरों या लोगों का दम घुट सकता है।
