From Latin “minusculus” (“somewhat smaller”), diminutive of “minus” (“less/smaller”); used in medieval Latin for small-letter scripts, later in typography for lowercase letters.

Definition
“Minuscules” is the plural of “minuscule.” It commonly means lowercase letters (as opposed to capital/majuscule letters). In historical writing, it can also mean the medieval handwriting styles called minuscule cursive and Caroline minuscule, or letters written in those styles.
